MELBOURNE, AUS — Roger Federer advanced to his record seventh Australian Open final after defeating Hyeon Chung 6-1, 5-2 ret. Chung, who previously beat Novak Djokovic, retired in just 1 hour and 2 minutes due to blisters on his left foot.
“I’ve played with blisters in the past a lot, and it hurts a lot. And at one point, it’s just too much and you can’t take it anymore — you can’t go on,” Federer said. “That’s why this one feels bittersweet. I’m incredibly happy to be in the finals, but not like this.
Federer will go on to play No. 6-seeded Marin Cilic on Sunday, January 28th at 3:30AM Eastern Time.
